Grain-Free VS Gluten-Free

Is grain for everyone? Why is gluten so bad? Is gluten-free same as grain- free? How has wheat changed over the last century?

WHAT IS A GRAIN?

Grains are dry seeds, with or without attached fruit layers. The most common grains are wheat, corn, oats and rice. Grains raise your blood sugar as much as refined sugar, so eating a diet consisting mostly of bread, muffins, pasta and rice leaves you at risk of developing diabetes and obesity same as refined sugar.

WHAT IS GLUTEN?

Gluten refers to a protein found in grains such as wheat, rye and barley. For people suffering from gluten-intolerance or Celiac disease, the symptoms may include constipation, abdominal pain, inflammation, migraines, skin disorders, nerve pain, fatigue, depression the list is endless. Gluten can be found in medications, makeup, vitamins and most processed food. For someone suffering from gluten-intolerance or Celiac disease they must eliminate all gluten from their diet

WHAT IS WHEAT ALLERGY?

Wheat allergy is just that—an allergy; it is the same as allergies to things such as seafood, cats, peanuts, etc. The symptoms may include a runny nose, wheezing, and sneezing; the most dangerous potential symptom is anaphylaxis, which can be a life-threatening systemic allergic reaction.

IS GRAIN-FREE DIET SAME AS GLUTEN-FREE DIET?

Following a grain-free diet means eliminating all grains including gluten-free grains from your diet. A gluten-free diet means eliminating only grains with gluten

HAS WHEAT CHANGED?

Today’s wheat is not the same as the wheat our grandparents ate. In most cases it has been genetically modified changing wheat from 6 feet tall to shorter plants mostly because it is easier to harvest, it is resistant to viruses and contains up to 30% fewer nutrients and more gluten

ARE WHOLE GRAIN PRODUCTS HEATHIER?

Today the milling process removes many nutrients and healthy fats from wheat, and even though the labels read fiber, vitamins and minerals on most bread, it is because the bread has been fortified. Having said that whole grain bread is still healthier than refined white bread

Going forward, take charge of your life and start living a healthier lifestyle by following a well-balanced diet consisting of fresh certified organic fruit and vegetables, lean grass-fed meat, free-range chicken and eggs, wild fish, nuts and healthy oils. Eat in moderation gluten-free, certified organic non-GMO grains such as quinoa and brown and wild rice, and avoid processed products such as cakes, cereal, prepared foods, and low-fat foods; they tend to be heavily processed and are high in carbs. Rule of thumb is buy ingredients, not products. If eating grains, gluten, dairy, nuts or anything else saps your energy or affects your health, eliminate it from your diet.
